Fireplace Types
Generally speaking, while there are many design styles concerning fireplaces they all generally fall into one of the folowing catagories for description purposes. There are Masonry Fireplaces: Masonry fireplaces are fireplaces that are constructed "on site" utilizing conventional masonry products such as brick/block/stone/stucco. Masonry chimneys usually have terrecotta clay or stainless steel flue linings. There are Prefabricated Fireplaces: Prefabricated fireplaces are fireplaces which are factory built and tested, they are assembled and installed "on site". Prefabricated firplaces are comprised of steel and refractory cement panels. Prefabricated fireplace systems always have metal chimney vent systems that are distinctly integral to the make and model of the fireplace. Some of these units have blowers and/or glass doors. There are Steel Fireplaces: Steel fireplaces are also commonly reffered to as Heatilators or HeatForms. (These are the names of 2 early manufacturers of these types of fireplaces). Steel fireplaces are fireplace's that are factory fabricated from 1/4 inch plate steel and they are generally installed into masonry chimney systems which usually have terrecotta clay linings. These systems often have vent grills incorporated into the "face" for extra heat convection into the room. *It is the experiance of "Antrim's" that most of these units are generally unsafe due to improper installation by mis/uninformed masons etc.
